Author Guidelines

JSKAR welcomes original scholarly research that falls within the journal's aims and scope. Authors should prepare manuscripts according to the JSKAR Manuscript Template and the requirements below.

MANUSCRIPT TEMPLATE

Authors should use the official JSKAR Manuscript Template (Microsoft Word) when preparing their manuscript.

The template provides the required manuscript structure, formatting, headings, tables, figures, references, and declarations.

GENERAL MANUSCRIPT REQUIREMENTS

• File format: Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX
• Page size: Letter (21.59 × 27.94 cm; 8.5 × 11 inches)
• Margins: 1.52 cm (0.6 inch) on all sides
• Orientation: Portrait
• Main text: 12-point Times New Roman or equivalent
• Line spacing: Double-spaced unless otherwise specified in the template
• Research article length: approximately 5,000–8,000 words, excluding references and supplementary materials where applicable
• Maximum file size: 20 MB

Authors should follow the manuscript template for detailed formatting of headings, tables, figures, references, and other manuscript elements.

REQUIRED MANUSCRIPT COMPONENTS

Research manuscripts should normally include:

ABSTRACT AND KEYWORDS

Research articles should normally include a concise, self-contained abstract of approximately 200–250 words and 4–6 keywords.

RESEARCH METHODS

Authors should describe their research design, data sources, analytical methods, and procedures with sufficient detail to allow appropriate evaluation and, where practical, reproducibility.

Authors should clearly identify data sources, study populations or study areas, analytical procedures, modelling approaches, and relevant assumptions or limitations.

FIGURES AND TABLES

Figures and tables should be numbered consecutively and referred to in the text.

Figures should be sufficiently clear for publication. Maps and other spatial visualizations should include appropriate legends, scales, labels, orientation, and source information where applicable.

Authors should ensure that they have permission to reproduce any copyrighted material included in the manuscript.

REFERENCES

References should follow APA 7th edition unless otherwise specified for a particular article type.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that references are complete, accurate, and consistently formatted.

RESEARCH INTEGRITY AND DECLARATIONS

Authors must comply with applicable ethical and research-integrity requirements.

Where applicable, manuscripts should include information concerning:

• Ethics approval
• Informed consent
• Funding
• Author contributions
• Conflicts of interest
• Data availability
• Use of artificial intelligence or AI-assisted tools
• Other relevant declarations

ORIGINALITY AND EXCLUSIVE SUBMISSION

Manuscripts submitted to JSKAR should not be under consideration by another journal at the same time.

Authors should ensure that submitted work is original and appropriately acknowledges previous research and sources.

AUTHOR RESPONSIBILITIES

All listed authors should have made a meaningful contribution to the research and should have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript.

The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal and for ensuring that all authors are aware of and approve the submission.

Manuscripts are submitted through the JSKAR online submission system.

Authors should select the article type and JSKAR research section that best represent the manuscript.

Submission Preparation Checklist

The manuscript fits within the aims and scope of JSKAR.

The manuscript presents original scholarly research and a clear research question, objective, or contribution.

The manuscript has been prepared using the official JSKAR Manuscript Template and follows the journal's formatting requirements.

The title, abstract, and keywords are complete and accurately describe the manuscript.

Figures and tables are appropriately numbered, titled, and referenced in the text.

References are complete, accurate, and follow APA 7th edition unless otherwise specified.

All authors have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript.

The manuscript is not currently under consideration by another journal.

All necessary permissions have been obtained for copyrighted material belonging to third parties.

Applicable ethical requirements have been addressed, including ethics approval and informed consent where required.

Funding, conflicts of interest, author contributions, data availability, and AI-use disclosures have been provided where applicable.

The appropriate article type and JSKAR research area have been selected.

The authors have reviewed the JSKAR Publication Fees and Open Access Policy.

The authors have reviewed the JSKAR Copyright, Licensing & Author Rights policy.

The authors understand that submission does not guarantee acceptance or publication and that all manuscripts are subject to editorial assessment and peer review.

Research involving geographic information systems, spatial analysis, cartography, spatial modelling, geovisualization, spatial statistics, geographic data management, and applications of spatial methods across disciplines.

Knowledge Systems, GeoAI & Spatial Data Science

Research on knowledge systems, GeoAI, artificial intelligence, machine learning, spatial data science, geocomputation, spatial databases, and computational approaches to geographic and spatial research.

Applied Earth Observation & Environmental Systems

Research using remote sensing, Earth observation, environmental monitoring, land-use and land-cover analysis, climate systems, ecological applications, and related environmental and Earth system sciences.

Research, Innovation & Resilience

Interdisciplinary research addressing innovation, resilience, sustainability, disaster risk, health, communities, Indigenous and local knowledge, and emerging approaches to solving complex societal and environmental challenges.
