Editorial Independence

Our Commitment to Editorial Independence

The Journal of Spatial Knowledge, Analytics and Research (JSKAR) is committed to maintaining editorial independence and ensuring that editorial decisions are based on scholarly quality, methodological rigor, transparency, appropriate interpretation, and meaningful scholarly contribution.

Editorial decisions are made independently according to the journal's editorial policies and scholarly standards. JSKAR does not permit financial considerations, institutional affiliation, geographic location, personal relationships, or other external interests to improperly influence editorial decisions.

The journal's editorial leadership is responsible for maintaining the independence, fairness, and integrity of the editorial process.

Independent Editorial Decision-Making

Editors are expected to make editorial decisions objectively and in accordance with JSKAR's editorial policies and scholarly standards.

Editors should not allow personal, institutional, financial, political, professional, or other interests to improperly influence their decisions.

Editorial decisions are based on the manuscript's scholarly quality and the available editorial and peer-review evidence. Reviewer recommendations are important evidence in the editorial process, but they do not automatically determine the final editorial decision.

The Academic Editor evaluates the manuscript, reviewer reports, author responses where applicable, and the overall quality of the research before making an editorial recommendation or decision.

Conflicts of Interest

Editors must disclose relevant actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest and should not manage manuscripts where their impartiality could reasonably be questioned.

Conflicts of interest may arise from financial relationships, professional or institutional relationships, personal relationships, collaborative relationships, academic or competitive interests, or other circumstances that could affect, or reasonably appear to affect, impartiality.

A conflict of interest does not necessarily prevent participation in the publication process. However, conflicts must be disclosed and managed appropriately to protect the integrity and independence of the editorial process.

Independence from Financial and External Interests

The payment of an article processing charge (APC), where applicable, does not guarantee acceptance and does not influence peer-review or editorial decisions.

JSKAR evaluates manuscripts based on their scholarly quality and does not permit financial considerations, institutional affiliation, geographic location, or personal relationships to determine editorial outcomes.

The journal's editorial decisions are independent of commercial, financial, institutional, or other external interests.

Editorial-Team Submissions

JSKAR maintains editorial independence and applies the same standards of peer review to all submissions, including manuscripts submitted by members of the editorial team.

When an Editor-in-Chief, Academic Editor, or other editorial team member submits a manuscript:

These safeguards are intended to ensure fairness, transparency, and confidence in the journal's editorial process and to protect the independence and credibility of editorial decision-making.

Peer-Review Independence

JSKAR's peer-review process is designed to provide an independent assessment of the methodological quality, analytical rigor, transparency, interpretation, and scholarly contribution of each manuscript.

Manuscripts considered potentially suitable for peer review are assigned to an Academic Editor with relevant subject-area expertise. The Academic Editor identifies and invites appropriate independent reviewers and evaluates the resulting reviewer reports together with the manuscript and author responses where applicable.

Reviewers are expected to provide independent and objective assessments and to disclose potential conflicts of interest. Individuals should decline an invitation when they have a conflict of interest or another relationship that could reasonably affect, or appear to affect, their impartiality.

Reviewer recommendations provide important evidence for editorial assessment but do not automatically determine the final editorial decision.

Editorial Accountability

Editorial independence is accompanied by accountability. JSKAR is committed to applying its editorial policies consistently, managing conflicts of interest appropriately, protecting the confidentiality of manuscripts and peer review, and responding appropriately to credible concerns about editorial conduct or publication ethics.

Authors who believe that a significant procedural error or serious misunderstanding affected an editorial decision may contact the JSKAR Editorial Office to request consideration of an appeal. Appeals should identify the specific procedural or substantive concern and provide supporting information where appropriate.

Concerns relating to research integrity, reviewer conduct, conflicts of interest, or editorial procedures may also be directed to the Editorial Office.

Transparency

JSKAR is committed to transparent and responsible scholarly publishing. Editorial independence requires both freedom from inappropriate influence and clear accountability for editorial decisions.

The journal's editorial policies and procedures are designed to support fair, consistent, and evidence-informed decision-making while maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.
